She Code Africa Mentorship Program - 3 Weeks Into The Program

John Crosby said “Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction”. This and many more is exactly how it has been over the last 3 weeks of She Code Africa Mentorship Program. Mentoring is the fastest way to level up in programming as it gives mentees the opportunity to work with experienced people who would challenge them and make them rise above their limits. In this article, I would be highlighting my progress and a few of the concepts I have learnt so far in the last couple of weeks during the course of the mentorship.

TEAM COLLABORATION

The ability to work in a team is a key criteria organizations look out for, before hiring their employees. This is the first concept we were introduced to during the program. We were paired in two’s and assigned a task to complete. This was also our introduction to working with GitHub as well as getting familiar with concepts such as push, pull requests, merge and hosting on GitHub pages.

FEEDBACK

Our mentor has been kind enough to go through our work, give us feedback on our tasks and help us through blockers during the execution of our tasks.

SKILLS IMPROVEMENT

Aristostle said “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them”. I feel fulfilled when I have my table full. With this program, I look forward to starting the new week with exciting tasks to execute. These tasks have helped me learn and put into practice new concepts.

PROJECTS

CONCLUSION

Big ups to my mentor and the entire She Code Africa team for all the efforts they have put into this program. They have ensured they held us accountable to ourselves and the program - meeting up with deadlines, technical writing and so on. Giving encouragement and regularly checking-in with mentees to ensure the program is running smoothly for everyone of us.
